Schools have until 2015 to implement new teacher evaluation system

Ada —

Oklahoma school officials preparing to implement a new system for grading teachers got a two-year reprieve this month.

Acting on a request from the state Department of Education, the Legislature approved a bill delaying full implementation of the Teacher and Leader Effectiveness (TLE) evaluation system for two years. Gov. Mary Fallin signed Senate Bill 426 into law May 29.

School districts are moving forward with the first half of the system under the new timetable, and they have until the start of the 2015-16 school year to adopt the second part.

Latta Superintendent Cliff Johnson said he agreed that the state needed more time to tweak the system.

“It’s a very complex process, and they need to take some time and look at it and study it some more,” he said.
