Ropes course helps identify leadership qualities

Ada —

The new ropes course at the Pontotoc County Technology Center is almost a year old now, and Benny Cope said recently the school  wants to attract businesses and industry employees to make use of the facilities out back.

The course, located by the Technology Center in a heavily wooded area, is designed to  help companies bring out and identify leadership qualities in their employees that sometimes not even the employee realizes.

Cope is the 62-year-old industrial coordinator of fire and safety programs for the center.  The retired Ada firefighter also puts fire programs together for fire departments in this part of the state.

Cope has two instructors for the ropes course, Jay Wood and Drew Dibler with Ada Fire Department. Those two assembled the course. They’ve  been challenging different groups from different age levels and physical skills to discover their potential during the first year of its existence.

Cope says they have worked with such school groups as East Central University Honor Society and several church groups.

Wood said a group of Fellowship of Christian Athletes from several schools in this area have been assisting him in putting groups through the course.
