Members of the Pontotoc County Free Fair Board approached Pontotoc County commissioners for funding Monday morning, saying they felt funds could help bring more people from outside the immediate area to Ada for overnight stays during this year’s fair.
In a nutshell, the group asked the county for $5,000 in funding. Free Fair Board member Todd Ray explained they wanted the county to help them to help the county by providing advertising revenues that attract more visitors to spend a few nights in the county, patronizing its restaurants, motels and other businesses during the fair.
In the end, the group got less than half of what it wanted after District 3 Commissioner Justin Roberts questioned the use of hotel/motel tax monies to pay for such activities, saying it didn’t fit with the guidelines set for how that money is to be used.
