McClure named Konawa's 2013 Citizen of the Year

Konawa —

At its annual banquet on Saturday, April 13, the Konawa Chamber of Commerce presented to the family of Steve McClure a plaque honoring Steve as Konawa’s 2013 Citizen of the Year. Steve passed away Dec. 12, 2012, but not without knowing of his extraordinary honor. Thirteen members of Steve’s family gratefully received his award.

McClure’s name is now added to four other outstanding community leaders who were previously named Citizen of the Year: Dan Khoury, Sr.; Milton Courtney; Larry Mays; and Jo Anne Lucas. Frank Wilson, Jr. introduced the keynote speaker, State Senator Susan Paddack, who challenged and encouraged the citizens of Konawa to work as a team to improve their city with innovative ideas and hard work. Also presenting updates on various community activities were Konawa Interim City Manager, Joe Leeds; Superintendent Joe Sharber; and Chamber President, Judi Bynum. The Konawa High School Brass, led by Donny Longest, opened the event with “The Star Spangled Banner,”  and Konawa High School’s FCCLA Chapter, sponsored by Kristi Scroggins, served the meal.
