The identity of a woman who was killed in an accident Friday has been released.
Jessie Novelle Miller, 61, Stratford, died after a vehicle backed over her. The incident occurred in the 200 block of W. 17th just before noon. Miller was a private care giver and was assisting a patient, 87-year-old Marilyn Cates of Ada when the accident occurred in a private driveway.
Cates told police she was going to back her vehicle, a 1993 Chevrolet Suburban, from the carport, then Miller was to drive after she backed the vehicle out.
“Cates stated that (Mrs. Miller) had walked behind the Suburban to put Cates’ walker in the back of the vehicle,” Ada Police Officer Brad Rhoads wrote in a report. “Cates advised that her foot slipped off the brake and hit the accelerator. Cates stated she was unable to stop quickly.”
Miller was en route to an Oklahoma City hospital when she died from, according to radio traffic, chest and head injuries. Mrs. Miller’s funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Criswell Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at Criswell Funeral Home.
