Girl scout claims attempted robbery; suspect says no

Ada — A woman was arrested Monday after a Girl Scout said the woman attempted to rob her.

The incident allegedly occurred at a residence in the 2400 block of Arlington Boulevard after 6:30 p.m., according to police.

A man told police he was in town visiting family and decided to go door-to-door with his daughter to sell Girl Scout cookies. He said while parked in the driveway of one house, he watched as his daughter spoke with a woman at the house.

“(The father) stated that the (woman) looked at the cookies and picked up the envelope with money in it,” patrol officer Richard Hubble wrote in a report. “(The father) stated that he then got out of the truck to see what was happening and the (woman) threw the envelope down and slammed the door.”

The man said his daughter was crying and that he knocked on the door. He said he smelled what he thought was marijuana coming from the residence. No one answered the door, he said.

Police arrived and after several attempts to get someone to answer the door, a man eventually did.

“Officer (Jeremy) O’Brien stated he could smell the odor of marijuana coming from inside the house,” Hubble said. “We went inside and made contact with another male ... and a female identified as Kristen Barbour hiding in the bathroom.”

Barbour was read her Miranda rights and questioned.

“(Barbour) stated that she did not see any girl that had come to the house selling girl scout cookies tonight and did not know what I was talking about,” Hubble said. “Officer O’Brien stated that we had enough evidence to arrest her for robbery. I then transported (Barbour) to the Pontotoc County Justice Center to be booked in.”

Barbour, 23, was arrested on suspicion of robbery.
