Ada —

A home in the 400 block of Crownpoint suffered extensive damage from a fire Thursday night.

The fire started in the kitchen/utility room, according to Ada firefighters who were called to the scene at 10:47 p.m. Central dispatch reported all occupants of the home escaped the home safely.

Sixteen firefighters responded to the two-story residence and battled the blaze for several hours. The fire was difficult to extinguish as it climbed through walls and into the attic. Firefighters kept the fire contained to the inside shell of the house.

“The fire damaged over 50 percent of the home,” Assistant Chief Rickey Ross said in a report. “The remaining structure and contents received major smoke and heat damage.”

Damage to the home and contents was estimated at $650,000. According to a report, the homeowner did have insurance. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
