County Democrats honor two with medal

Ada —

The Pontotoc County Democrats gathered April 6 and awarded Billie Floyd and Vaskon White with Heritage medallions.

Floyd has been an educator, state senator and civic leader. She has been inducted into the East Central University Educators Hall of Fame, organized the state’s first Special Olympics and developed Red Cross swimming programs.

She has worked with PAWS and PAST (Preserving Area Stories in Time). She has worked tirelessly gathering census information. For the Democratic Party, she has knocked doors, delivered signs and given expert advice, county party officials said.

White has know hard work from childhood. He believes education is for everyone and not just the rich. Everyone has a voice: that voice is the vote. He was Pontotoc County Treasurer from 1981-92. He instituted the bidding processes so the county earned interest on collected taxes.

He has been president of both the regional and state levels of the county treasurers association. He has always tried to instill in others the love of God, country and family, party officials said.
