Chickasaw leader attends Obama inaugural

Jefferson Keel was just another face in the crowd when he first watched presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama take their oaths of office.

The lieutenant governor of the Chickasaw Nation gained a new perspective on the ceremony this year, when he joined about 100 other dignitaries on the platform in Washington, D.C., for Obama’s second Inauguration Day.

Keel said a White House official invited him to the ceremony, which was the first time a tribal leader has been seated on the inaugural platform in at least 40 years.
