Konawa —

Konawa officials issued a boil order Thursday after a water main break caused a pressure drop in the water distribution system.

The town’s 1,300 residents were directed to use boiled or bottled water for drinking, cooking, making ice and other tasks until the order is lifted. The order also warned people to avoid drinking the water without boiling it first.

The drop in water pressure may have allowed bacteria, parasites and viruses to enter the city’s water supply. Boiling will kill those organisms.

City crews were working on the problem, and the boil order will be lifted as soon as tests indicate there are no microorganisms in water samples, according to the news release.
