East Central University students to research low voter turnout

Ada —

Three political science students at East Central University want to know why people don’t vote in local elections.

Marsha Coyle, Will Irwin and Stephen Vines are taking the public policy-making class at ECU, and they are working on a research project about voter turnout. As part of the project, they will survey registered voters about whether they cast ballots in the March 2013 Ada City Council election.

One of Coyle’s assignments requires her to write a research paper suitable for publication in a scholarly journal. The paper must include an element of community service and focus on a political-science issue.
