Poteau student wins Concerto Competition at ECU

 The winner of the 2013 Concerto Competition at East Central University showcased her skills last week in a solo performance with the ECU Wind Ensemble.

ECU junior Claire Marquardt performed composer George Gerswhin’s Rhapsody in Blue, a composition for piano and wind ensemble, during the group’s spring concert April 29 at the Ataloa Theatre of the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center. 

The performance was Marquardt’s prize for winning ECU’s second annual Concerto Competition, which took place Feb. 18 at the university. Marquardt also won a $500 scholarship, provided by the Masonic Endowment for Cultural Enrichment.
