Ada — During a period when most government buildings have undergone major security changes for the safety of the public, Pontotoc County has remained virtually unchanged from the old days when such security wasn’t deemed necessary.
Pontotoc County Sheriff John Christian and other county officials feel that time has come and gone, and are hoping to soon beef up security at this county’s facility soon.
Christian brought the idea up at last week’s county commission meeting and he doesn’t appear to have any opposition from those who have so far avoided disaster.
No plans to move forward have been put in place, but Christian believes the time has come to stop pushing the envelope and to better secure the courthouse.
So far disaster headlines have been something for other counties and cities to deal with. With the exception of a few scuffles in the halls of Pontotoc County over custody battles, Pontotoc County has had no serious incidents, Christian said.
