Missing Roff boy found in Waurika lake

Ada — The search for a missing 12-year-old boy ended Tuesday morning when authorities found the boy’s body in Lake Waurika.

Searchers found Roff resident Colton D. Parnell at 8:14 a.m. at Mitchell Point, according to a report from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

Parnell disappeared from the Kiowa Park One campsite Saturday night, the Lawton-based television station KSWO reported earlier this week. OHP crews and local law enforcement officers launched a search for the boy which included dragging the lake and using sonar equipment.

Parnell was swimming in an undesignated area of the lake and drowned sometime between 7 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, the highway patrol reported. Witnesses saw the boy go down but were unable to reach him, and he came up twice but did not resurface a third time.

Authorities said Parnell was not wearing a life jacket when he went into the water.
