Ada —

Ada officials moved forward with plans Thursday to construct a new terminal building at Ada Municipal Airport.

The Ada City Council voted 4-0 to accept Kornhaas Construction’s bid to construct the new building for about $1.07 million. Councilman Ben McFarlane was absent.

The council will sign the contract and other documents at a later date.

The Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission voted last week to approve a $500,000 grant for the Ada airport, which will be used to help cover the cost of the terminal building, said City Manager Cody Holcomb.

“We’re really excited about that, and the terminal building is moving forward,” he said.

Holcomb said officials started talking about the terminal project in the fall of 2013, and staffers worked through the holidays to put the plans together and seek bids. He added that the city received seven bids for the project.

“We’ve got really good bidders,” he said. “Prices are really tight, so that gives me confidence that we’ve got good bids.”

He added that the bids came under the city’s estimated price tag for the project.

Councilman Darrell Nemecek said he was glad to see the city making progress on the project.

“Hopefully, this is just the start of some other good things,” he said.
