Ada City Council member resigns

Ada —

Ada City Councilman Shane Sweeney is stepping down so he can devote more time to his business and his family, he announced Monday.

“The time has come that I can no longer keep pace with my growing business, and also maintain the level of service to the City of Ada that I desire, and that the city deserves,” he said in a written statement, which he supplied to The Ada News. “Therefore, I have decided to resign my seat as Ward 2 Councilman, effective December 31, 2013, so I can focus more on my business, retail development and family.”

He thanked Ada residents for their support during the past four years and said he enjoyed working for them on the council.

Sweeney’s departure leaves his slot up for grabs in the upcoming municipal elections.

In the spring, Ada voters will choose the new council members for the 2nd and 4th Wards. Sweeney represents the 2nd Ward and Councilman Guy Sewell represents the 4th Ward, which covers the southwest section of the city.

The filing period for the primary election runs from Feb. 4 through 6. The primary is set for March 4, and the general election will be on April 1.
