Ada — A car reported stolen Sunday was found burning the same day and police are searching for suspects.
The car — a 2012 yellow Chevrolet Camaro — was reported stolen from a residence in the 1300 block of Magnolia Street just after 8 a.m. by owners Kay Colbert-Hall and Michael Hall, Ada Police Officer Kylor Pool said in a report. Michael Hall said the keys to the car were accidentally left in the ignition and the doors were probably unlocked.
About an hour earlier, Pool knew that Ada firefighters and Pontotoc County sheriff's deputies were dispatched to a vehicle fire at the intersection of county roads 1550 and 3535. Ada police responded to the fire scene and discovered the vehicle, although severely burned, was the car reported stolen.
A man who reported the car fire told Deputy Kevin Wood he was walking on CR 1550 when a yellow Camaro sped past him. He then saw smoke in the distance and four teens or young adults running down CR 1550 toward Ada.
Pool said after the car fire, Ada firefighters reported seeing four or five teenagers or people in their early twenties walking in the north alley of 12th Street east of Johnston Street. Firefighters thought they might be the suspects but after searching, police could not locate them.
Police said anyone with information concerning this case can call CrimeStoppers at 332-2824 to report information.
