Fight puts area schools on lockdown

Byng — BYNG -- A fight involving students and faculty forced a lockdown of Byng Schools Friday.

According to authorities, a fight between junior high students and Byng faculty led to a lockdown of Byng Schools and short manhunt for those involved.

Pontotoc County Sheriff John Christian said the melee started when one student allegedly attacked another student. When a school faculty authority intervened, the brother of the attacker jumped in, according to Christian. The principal also intervened  and a third juvenile joined in the ruckus.

Authorities were called and the three juveniles allegedly fled the scene. Byng schools were placed on lockdown as a precaution and a manhunt ensued.

Deputy Curtis Kennedy and Chickasaw Lighthorse patrol officer Chris Crow later located the three juveniles and arrested them on various charges. They were taken to the Pontotoc County Justice Center.

Names of the suspects were not released because they are minors.
