Ada —

Ada City Council has delayed a decision on closing part of Turner Street amid concerns that area property owners might not know about the proposed change.

The council was set to vote Monday on Trinity Baptist Church’s request to close Turner between 10th Street and the northern boundary of the alley between Main and 10th, but the vote was postponed until July 15. The delay gives the city time to notify people who own property within 300 feet of the site.

Officials at Trinity Baptist, located at 123 N. Mississippi, requested the road closing to make the area safer for its congregation.

“There’s a lot of traffic that takes place between, particularly, our main building and the building that’s across Turner Street from our main building, which is our fellowship area,” said Pastor Rusty Fuller. “A lot of children’s activities take place in there. So really, its a safety issue as much as anything else.”

He said the church has tried using temporary blockades to discourage traffic in the area, but people simply drove around them.
