Sen. Paddack endorses Deskin for State Schools Superintendent

Ada — Citing Freda Deskin as “the most qualified and experienced candidate,” State Senator Susan Paddack of Ada endorsed educator Deskin for State Superintendent of Public Instruction.

Noting Deskin’s long history in Oklahoma’s education system, Paddack said Deskin is the only candidate with a broad knowledge base of both educational theory and practice. Deskin was selected by NASA as the state’s Teacher in Space, has taught all grades K-12 in public schools, and has been a college Dean of Education.

“Supporting the most qualified and experienced candidate for this race is more vital than ever. I believe that Freda Deskin is the only candidate capable of righting the ship and correcting the course for public education in our state,” said Paddack.

The primary for the race will be June 24.

Deskin welcomed Paddack’s endorsement, saying the race may be the most important one in her lifetime. Deskin said the future prosperity of Oklahoma depends on graduating students who are well-educated and prepared to meet the demands of a global economy.

“The State Superintendent of Public Instruction needs to be an inclusive consensus builder, one who will build bridges between all the stakeholders in education—parents, students, educators, and community leaders,” Deskin said. “We must address the needs of each community, student, teacher and parent on a case to case basis, versus a one-size-fits-all approach.”
