Vintage quilt workshops, exhibits slated

Ada — A hands-on quilt workshop and exhibit will be conducted by Judy Howard Sunday, Jan. 26, from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Regents Room of the East Central University’s Memorial Student Union.

Howard, owner of Buckboard Quilts in Oklahoma City for 37 years, will display a collection of Oklahoma historical quilts, dating back to 1834, in a program called “Oklahoma History in Quilts Bed Turning Program.”

Howard will bring 20-30 historic quilts in a hands-on show with an amusing story-telling session. Included are exhibits of antique quilts appraised from $3,000 to $17,500 with vintage photos featured in her books.

The program follows the custom of Oklahoma pioneers who stacked their finest quilts flat on the guest bed for all to admire as they turned each quilt down, one at a time, and told its story.

Feb. 16, Howard will have an exhibit titled “Stories of Our Pioneer and Body and Soul Quilt Exhibit,” from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Regents Room.

In this historic quilt and vintage apron trunk show program, Howard entertains with stories of courageous pioneers from her new book, 1905 Cookbook – Food for Body and Soul. She will display her collection of vintage aprons, hand embroidered tea towels and hand-crocheted pot holders.

The exhibits are free to view and all proceeds from sales of product at the exhibit will be donated to Abbas Tables. Presentations about the collections are $30 or $20 if enrolling online and using the promotional code of WINTER.
