Jailer arrested for contraband

Ada — A Pontotoc County Justice Center jailer was arrested for allegedly transporting contraband into the jail.

Sheriff John Christian said he obtained information from a confidential source that Devin Adams, 26, of Ada, was bringing contraband into the jail. Christian requested assistance from the District Attorney’s Drug Task Force to assist in the investigation.

"Information was obtained from confidential sources that Adams would be bringing contraband into the Justice Center when he came to work on (Thursday)," Christian said. "Upon Adams’ arrival, he was met by officers with the Task Force and questioned before entering the Justice Center."

Christian said Adams gave consent to search his vehicle and himself. Items recovered from Adams' vehicle were consistent with items normally associated as contraband in a jail or penal institution, according to Christian.

"The items found in Adams' vehicle were a cell phone charger, tobacco, cigarette lighters, rolling papers, tobacco and (marijuana)," he said. "Adams was questioned by Task Force officers and admitted to bring contraband into the Justice Center on prior occasions and his intent to bring the above listed items to an inmate inside the Justice Center."

Adams was arrested on suspicion of endeavoring to bring contraband into a penal facility and possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute within 2,000 feet of a park.

Adams posted $50,000 bail and was released shortly after he was arrested, Christian said. Adams was employed at the Justice Center since February.

This is the second time in a week a jailer was arrested. Kevin Clark, 42, Ada, was arrested June 12 on suspicion of forcible sodomy and rape by instrumentation of a female inmate.
