.03 snowfall ices roads, causes accidents

Ada — The city's first measurable amount of snow this autumn left behind beautiful scenes but also sent several people to the hospital.

According to Central Dispatch, a total of 11 car accidents were reported in Pontotoc County Monday — the first occurring at 7:19 a.m.

Ada motorists found the slick roads a challenge as well. Six accidents were reported and while some people were transported to Valley View Regional Hospital, none of the injuries were life-threatening, according to officials.

The snowfall — measured by Mesonet at .03 inches — blanketed car windshields with the dusting, but city officials said while the snow began falling about 5 a.m., it immediately began melting and refreezing, causing a thin sheet of ice to cover roads throughout town and the area.

An Ada Fire Department truck was involved in an accident, city officials said. The truck was parked at the scene of an accident off Arlington when a car slid into its metal bumper. While the bumper received a slight ding, the car that hit it wasn't as fortunate.
