Spirit of Christmas: Plenty of Ada city workers lend a hand

Ada —  

   You wouldn’t know it by looking, but the city of Ada really isn’t connected to the Spirit of Christmas organization that has been providing gifts for the needy for the last 24 years.

The group has its own corporation and thrives on volunteers. Most of them just happen to be employees from the city of Ada.

The volunteers donate their time in off hours, said Daron Ellis of the parks and recreation department. They approach local businesses and individuals interested in donating to a good cause, take the funds they’re give, and produce a big party and lots of toys and other items for kids from zero to 14 years of age.

“In the past, we’ve done motorcycle runs,” Ellis said. “That method raised a lot of money one year and not so much last year.”
