Family fun night set at Wintersmith Park

Ada —

Ada is offering residents a chance to enjoy boat rides, refreshments and a movie under the stars this month.

Ada will host a family fun night from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday, July 20, south of Wintersmith Lodge in Wintersmith Park. Canoe and boat rides, music and a showing of Men in Black 3  are all part of the mix.

There will be inflatables for the kids, and the Ada High School girls' basketball team will sell hot dogs and desserts as a fundraiser. The Kiwanis of Greater Ada will open their snack bar and kids rides.

Men in Black 3 will be shown on the city’s new 20-foot movie screen, which made its debut earlier this summer at the Ada Air Expo, public relations specialist Lisa Bratcher said Friday.

“When we literally were putting it up at the air show, we were jumping around like little kids,” she said. “It is like being at the drive-in movie. The experience is outstanding.”

Citizens Bank is sponsoring the event, and Oklahoma City Riversport is supplying the canoes and dragon boats. All activities are free except for the hot dogs and desserts which will be available for a small fee.

Bratcher said she is encouraging Adans to bring their lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy the evening.

“It’s going to be even better than being at the movies because you’re outside,” she said,. “but you’re going to get the same experience. It’s incredible, and I’m really excited.”

She said the city will host at least one more event at Wintersmith Park this summer.
