'Cheaper by the Dozen' presented by ACT II

Ada — ADA – Ada Community Theatre (ACT II, Inc.) will be presenting "Cheaper by the Dozen," a comedy adapted by Christopher Sergel from the book by Frank Gilbreth and Ernestine Gilbreth Carey.

The show is directed by Vickie Reifsnider and stage managed by Amanda Daniel.  Performances are Thursday, Dec. 12 through Saturday, Dec. 14 at 7 p.m. in the Dorothy Summers Theatre on ECU campus.

Meet the late 1920’s Gilbreth family as Ernestine and Frank Gilbreth, played by Alyssa James and Justice O’Neal, narrate the events that lead up to their father’s final conference meeting.

Frank Gilbreth Sr. (Alan Marshall) is an extremely busy man who teaches motion study all over the world including to his loyal maid Mrs. Fitzgerald (Kayla McCullough).  Mr. Gilbreth’s life changes are set into motion when Dr. Burton (Nick Geisler) delivers bad news concerning his health.

The once controlled homestead turns to total chaos as the oldest daughter Anne (Shelby Davis) announces she is going to start wearing silk stockings and start meeting boys, and her brothers Bill (Andrew Daniel), Fred (Mitchell Galbreaith), Dan (Ben Muse) and Jackie (Maddie Smith) bring home a $5 dog while the cheerleader Joe Scales (Courtland Teal) is outraged that he can’t date a Gilbreth without being chaperoned, and Miss Brill (Dawn Teal) thinks his children cheat on exams. Martha (Serena Elliott) thinks she understands men and tries to make Anne’s newest love interest Larry (Adam Daniel) jealous by not being so honest.

The calmest of the children are Lillian (Morgan Urlaub) and Mary (Emily Ford) who aren’t quite boy crazy...yet. Mrs. Gilbreth (Nicole Erwin) is a loving mother who seems to understand her daughters’ needs and still has enough backbone to keep her husband under control as she juggles twelve children including 6 year old Bob (Silas Elliott) and baby Jane (Reina Long).

Tickets may be purchased at the door beginning at 6:30 p.m.: $8 for adults, $6 for seniors and students, and $4 for children 5 and under.  For information, call 580-272-7234 or e-mail act2ada@yahoo.com.
