Dozens of area employers will be looking to find new employees as the Chickasaw Nation hosts the 14th annual Ada Area Job Fair at the Pontotoc County Agri-Plex, 1700 N. Broadway, Ada, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 15.
Sponsors say while the unemployment rate in Ada is 4.4 percent, well below the national average of 7.6 percent, finding the right job may still be difficult. During past job fairs hosted in Ada more than 50 employers have sought workers with varying levels of ability and education in a host of fields. Those include graphic design, communications, health care, finance, retail, transportation, customer service, distribution, mechanical, food services, construction, manufacturing, oil field, industrial maintenance and more.
The fair is open to the public. Private rooms will be available for employers who wish to interview on-site.
Major employers that have participated in the Ada Area Job Fair include the Chickasaw Nation, Dollar General Stores, Pontotoc County Department of Human Services, Arbuckle Truck Driving and Sulphur Veterans Center.
While job-grabbing tips are all over the Internet, a few are universal.
• Have plenty of resumes handy. You may even have two resumes that focus on your abilities in different fields.
• It is an opportunity to get face-to-face with potential employers. Put your best foot forward when given that opportunity.
• Dress for the job you desire. Business casual is suggested, but if you are seeking a job that would require a suit and tie each day, dress in a suit and tie for the job fair.
• Research the companies you are interested in working for and prepare yourself with knowledge about what that company does, how you would be a great fit as an employee and what skills you would bring to the table to help that business succeed.
