The U.S. Supreme Court is wading into a dispute over whether a North Texas agency can use Oklahoma water to meet demand in the Fort Worth-Arlington area.
The justices have agreed to review a case brought by the Tarrant Regional Water District, which wants to tap water from Oklahoma to supply the Fort Worth-Arlington area, the Oklahoman reported in Friday’s editions. The court is expected to decide whether a 33-year-old agreement gives Texas the right to take water from Oklahoma to fulfill Texas’ share of water allocated from the Red River Basin.
The newspaper said the Obama administration has said a ruling favoring Texas would not necessarily mean that the Fort Worth-Arlington area would get Oklahoma water every year.
