In some ways, the area’s Christmas Day storm turned out to be more bark than bite.
Or vice versa, depending on interpretation.
The relatively small amount of precipitation that fell on Christmas Day and night, a reported half inch, did leave enough ice on the roads to cause a rash of cars sliding off the road. But the forecast of 3 to 5 inches of snow fell well short of advance billing by the National Weather Service.
“We dodged another bullet,” said People’s Electric Cooperative Senior Vice President Carlton Tilley.
The power company’s only reported power outage as of Wednesday morning was a small area just south of Stonewall involving 17 homes. Tilley said power was restored in about four hours.
