Stabbing victim faces arrest while hospital patient

Ada —

A patient in Valley View Regional Hospital’s emergency room early Sunday morning suffering from a stab wound woke up facing two drug charges and a pending arrest when he gets better.

Roy Daniel Lankford arrived at the hospital about 3:42 a.m. Sunday after being stabbed. Police reported no details on what happened to cause the stabbing Monday.

During his physical exam, a nurse removed the man’s clothing to get to the wound, only to find a small, white, round plastic container in the victim’s  front right jean pocket.

Inside  the container, the nurse found four small, blue ziplock baggies. One contained a green leafy substance, and the other three contained a crystal-like substance.

The nurse took possession of the plastic container and called police.

Police say the green, leafy substance inside one bag had the odor of marijuana.

When Ada police tried to question Lankford about the contents in the bags, he was still sedated from the surgery.

Police then collected and photographed the evidence, entered the items into the report and sent them to Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation laboratory for identification. The officer said he would be sending a copy of the report to, and seeking a warrant request from, the district attorney’s office for the following charges:

• possession of a controlled, dangerous substance;

• possession of marijuana.
