Weather bulletin for Pontotoc County

Ada — The National Weather Service in Norman reported early Thursday afternoon that Pontotoc County residents can expect a temperature of 19 degrees tonight with a wind chill of about 10 degrees.

The entire county and much of southern Oklahoma are under a winter storm warning with ice accumulations of 1/4 to 1/2 inch expected. Ada's accumulation is expected to be closer to 1/4 inch.

Temperatures were expected to remain about 27 degrees all day Thursday before dropping to 19 Thursday night.

The heaviest accumulations of ice, according to meteorologist Ryan Barnes at the National Weather Service in Norman, were in the south to southeastern part of the county.

Friday's high is expected to be no higher than 23 degrees with daytime wind chills Friday at five to 10 degrees.

The second cold front leading to next week's storm is expected to come through the county Saturday night, and that wind chill factor is expected to reach -8 degrees.

An earlier report had predicted the wind chill between 0 and plus-eight degrees.

For the rest of today, the worst of the county weather is expected in the southeast portions. Stonewall, Jessie and Fittstown are expected to receive up to a half-inch of freezing rain.

Those places should get about a half-inch of light snow before lunch Friday.

Light freezing rain is expected to accompany the new front's arrival Saturday night.
