Man dies in crash

Ada — One man died and one was injured in a two-vehicle collision Tuesday afternoon near Wynnewood.

According to Oklahoma Highway Patrol, 74-year-old Kerne Pickens of Oklahoma City, died from injuries he received in the crash.

Wynnewood resident Trey Phillips was taken to Pauls Valley General Hospital in Pauls Valley where he was treated and released. Phillips, 29, was eastbound on U.S. Highway 77 when he tried to pass another driver who was slowing down before making a left turn into a private drive, according to OHP. Phillips’ 2009 Chevrolet pickup struck a 2013 Chevrolet Impala driven by Wynnewood resident Sherman Pickens who was westbound on U.S. 77.

Sherman Pickens was not hurt, according to OHP. Kerne Pickens was a passenger in the Impala. He was taken to the Pauls Valley hospital and was later airlifted to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City where he later died.

Both vehicles were equipped with seat belts which were in use when the wreck occurred.
