Ada —

When Dylan Alexander "Alex" Vercelli was 10 years old, he sustained severe injuries to his legs and back from a beating his father gave him after he reportedly refused to clean up the family’s microwave oven.

A 2008 affidavit accuses James Thomas Vercelli of child abuse by injury against his son.   The father told police officers it was a spanking, but photos of the child’s multiple injuries were convincing enough to get the elder Vercelli  placed on probation with a suspended sentence under the supervision of the probation enforcement of Oklahoma.

In 2004, the elder Vercelli also  received a misdemeanor conviction in Pontotoc County for domestic abuse crime, and received a one-year suspended sentence, records show.

Now, five years later, at age 15, the son, Alex Vercelli, is being held in Pontotoc County Jail pending a preliminary hearing on three felony counts from the Pontotoc District  Attorney’s  office.  The youthful offender information document filed  Wednesday accuses the son of attempting to kill his now wheelchair- bound father by starting multiple fires at the exits of his mother’s home and in one of the windows at 931 W. 23rd St. early Wednesday morning.
