Fun Country Area Special Olympics hosts art, music festival

ADA — Fun Country Area Special Olympics recently held its yearly art and music festival at Ada High School’s Cougar Activity Center.

Works of art were entered from the Ada, Ardmore, Fox, Lindsay, Pauls Valley, Plainview, Stonewall and Sulphur areas. 

More than 80 talented young artists entered 165 pieces of art in category divisions including collages, fibercrafts, painting, photography, pottery, sewing and more. Awards presented were for Best in Show, Judges’ Choice, Directors’ Choice, Recycling, Best in Category Division and Age Division.

The Best in Show was presented to an 8-year-old boy from Stonewall. His free-flowing, vibrant abstract painting of a truck is shown at the top of the photo.

The local directors of Fun Country Special Olympics are Gloria and Harold Muse.

Retired special education teacher Abby Phillips coordinates this yearly event. The art was judged by local artists Rosemarie Benya and Loretta Yin.

 

Tanti Fine Arts

Tanti Fine Arts Study Club met in the home of President Sandra Ingram with 18 members present. 

Sandra Haney read the minutes of February's meeting. Z.D. and Oliver Parker’s 60th Anniversary was mentioned and applauded.

Betty Binkley and Martha Wigdor were in charge of getting the list for programs and hostesses for next year completed. Rosa Hendrix announced next year’s officers and committee members would stay the same as all the present members had agreed to serve another year. 

April is the last meeting until September and Paula Green with be the hostess. The meeting will be April 9 at 2 p.m. Carol Davis was Ingram's co-hostess and they served a lovely dessert after the program was finished.

Delores Moore presented a program on Wolfgang Amadeus’s Mozart. He was the most extraordinary 18th century composer. He showed his talent at a very early age. He was lacking in responsibility, but his talent made up for what he lacked in other areas.
