Reception to honor Dr. Stan Nnochirionye

Ada — A come-and-go “Welcome Home Reception” for Dr. Stan Nnochirionye will be Nov. 13 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. The event will be in the ECU Foundation Hall in the Chickasaw Business and Conference Center on the ECU campus.

Dr. Nnochirionye, known to many as Ada’s “Mr. Soccer” or simply “Dr. Stan,” underwent a successful liver transplant Aug. 9 in Oklahoma City. After staying in Oklahoma City since the procedure, doctors recently gave him their approval to return to Ada.

According to event organizers, Dr. Stan is doing well and wants a chance to thank everyone for their support. At the same time many people want to visit with him and contribute to the fund established to help offset some of his medical expenses. So, it is believed this event will allow all of these things to happen.

While insurance has covered much of the cost of his medical care, the biggest expense is for the portion of the cost of medication for which insurance does not pay.  That cost will continue far into the future.

The reception will feature entertainment from ECU’s international students and recorded music from around the world. Attendees will have a chance to put donations on a money tree or into an envelope with a note and then into a big basket. Those who wish can receive a receipt for their donations.

Donations can also be sent to the Dr. Stan Nnochirionye Medical Fund at either the Bank of the West at 606 E Main, Ada, OK 74820 or to the East Central University Foundation at 1100 East 14th Street Y-8, Ada, OK 78420.
