Ada residents who forget to put their polycarts away after trash day will be fined $20 for the first offense, but the penalty could rise to $50 for additional violations of the city’s solid-waste ordinance.
The Ada City Council approved on Monday a new version of the ordinance, which says residents may not put their polycarts out for pickup until 5 p.m. the night before their scheduled collection day. Under the ordinance, residents must put their polycarts back in storage before noon the day after collection. People who do not obey the ordinance will pay a $20 fine for the first offense and up to $50 for each subsequent violation, which includes court costs.
Officials will promote the change using social media and news outlets, but the city will not punish anyone for failing to follow the ordinance before it is implemented, said City Manager Cody Holcomb.
