Ada —

The Pentagon’s decision to end the ban on women in combat does not necessarily mean that all battlefront jobs will be open to women, U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe said Thursday.

“While the Pentagon has rescinded  the  1994  Direct Combat Definition and Assignment Rule, not all of the 237,000 jobs previously closed to women will now be automatically open,” the top Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee said in a news release. “Instead, the military services, under Secretary (Leon) Panetta’s direction, will conduct a review of all unit and specialty positions to be completed no later than 2016.”

Inhofe added that lawmakers will have time to review the military’s study and introduce legislation to prevent any changes that might harm the military.
