Fire destroys house in Byng

Byng — Officials with Byng Volunteer Fire Department and the Oklahoma State Fire Marshal’s Office are investigating a fire which destroyed a Byng home Thursday evening.

No one was in the home, located on Minco Road just west of U.S. 377, when the fire started. It was called in by passersby on U.S. 377 just after 5 p.m., who reported seeing large flames. Chris McGill, Byng Volunteer Fire Department chief, said when firefighters arrived, the home was engulfed in fire and partially collapsed.

Ada and Oil Center firefighters also responded to assist Byng firefighters with extinguishing the blaze and keep flames from spreading. The home, which McGill estimated to be $260,000, was totally destroyed. He said the family does have insurance.
