House of Hope wraps up fund-raising campaign

Ada —

With the help of local donors, the House of Hope Pregnancy Care Center has raised enough money to buy its building.

House of Hope recently wrapped up its first-ever fundraising campaign, which was designed to help the nonprofit organization purchase the building at 509 E. 12th St. The organization also used the proceeds from its annual benefit walk to help reach the goal.

House of Hope had rented the building since 2001, but the organization learned earlier this year that the owner needed to sell the property, director Rachel Miller said Thursday. That meant the organization had to either buy the building or find a new home.

“We didn’t want to have to move because we’re pretty much in the heart of Ada, and a lot of our clients walk,” Miller said. “They don’t own vehicles and they’re familiar with us being here. It just works well.”

House of Hope needed to come up with $75,000 to buy the building, but the orgnaization had not established a fund for that purpose. So the organization launched a fundraising campaign in early April.

Several churches already support House of Hope with regular contributions, and the organization asked them to contribute to the fundraising campaign. Individual donors and businesses also opened their pocketbooks for the cause.

House of Hope also used the proceeds from this year’s benefit walk to supplement the money from the fundraising campaign. The organization normally uses the proceeds from that event to help cover operating costs,

The campaign continued until House of Hope met its fundraising goal and closed the deal on the building in early July.

Miller said she wanted to thank the businesses and other donors who supported the campaign.

“It worked out well, and now it’s a relief to know that this is ours and we can continue working from here,” she said.
