Former Adan makes plea bargain

Wewoka —

A former Ada man agreed to a plea bargain in the 2009 murder of his wife in a Seminole County District Court room on March 15.

Stoney Gene Ward, 32, was arrested shortly after  he allegedly murdered his wife, Regina Sue Ward,  who was 42 at the time of her shooting death.

A spokesperson with the Seminole County District Attorney’s office reported Ward had agreed to an Alford plea on the charge of murder in the first degree following two or more former felony convictions.

First Assistant District Attorney Paul Smith was out of town Thursday, but he earlier explained that acceptance of the Alford plea allows Ward to assert his innocence as part of the agreement while at the same time admitting the prosecution probably has enough evidence to convict him in a trial.
