Charities to benefit from 'Perks'

 Fitness buffs — or people who just want a day of fun — will have a chance to enjoy themselves while supporting local charities later this month.

The Perks Club gymnasium will host a daylong fundraiser March 30 at the gym, 117 S. Townsend. The event will kick off with a 5K run/walk at 9 a.m. and a silent auction, which will run from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Fans of the Zumba dance fitness program can join a Zumba marathon from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., then try to dunk local celebrities at the dunk tank from 1 to 3 p.m. The day will end with Pictionary playoffs starting at 7 p.m.

The fundraiser is open to the public, and the gym will charge an entry fee for each event. Here’s a list of the fees:

• 5K run/walk: The fee is $25 per person, and the first 100 entries will receive a free shirt. The first-, second- and third-place winners in the men’s and women’s divisions will each get a free hat, and the top finisher will win a trophy.

• Zumbathon: The fee is $20 apiece, and all entries will get a free shirt.

• Dunk tank: Participants can buy three balls for $5.

• Pictionary playoffs: The cost is $25 per four-person team. The top two teams will get a free shirt, and the first-place team will win a trophy.

All proceeds from the fundraiser will be distributed to local charities.

People interested in joining the fun should call or drop by Perks by March 25. Membership is not required to participate.
