Local soldier offers thanks for packages

Ada —  

Greetings from Afghanistan. I write on behalf of the entire 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team to express our sincere gratitude for the letters and care packages provided to us at Forward Operating Base Gamberi, Afghanistan, by the people of Pontotoc County. We appreciate your kindness and generosity.

We are fortunate to have good facilities and services, including mail, where I am stationed. That is not the case for all the Oklahomans at various installations in this country. You will be happy to learn we forward a portion of your contributions to our fellow soldiers at more distant posts who may not have received care packages in quite some time. No doubt they are grateful to you as well.

We also share some of your gifts with the local Afghans who work for us here on base. Your gifts have even greater impact with the locals in light of their impoverished way of life.

On a personal note, as an Ada resident, I am pleased and proud of my community for remembering Oklahoma’s troops, including me. We are now just weeks away from the journey home and you have all made our time in Afghanistan an even better experience. Again, thank you.
