Oklahoma City —
A student short documentary produced by East Central University mass communication student Eric Turner will screen at the 13th Annual deadCENTER Film Festival at 5 p.m., Saturday, June 8, in Oklahoma City.
The short documentary, titled, “Fighting for Love – the Struggle for Marriage Equality in Oklahoma,” was produced during the Fall 2012 semester for a mass communication TV production class and highlights the two couples that are fighting Oklahoma’s ban on same sex marriage.
“I honestly didn’t know there was even a lawsuit against the ban,” Eric Turner, who wrote and directed the short documentary, said. “I got clued in by an acquaintance, talked with the couples bringing the lawsuit and it just all came together quite easily.”
Turner submitted the documentary to the deadCENTER Film Festival organization in February. He was notified in late April that his film had been selected to screen with other gay-themed short films in the category called “Equality.”
Turner, a resident of Ada, is an employee of the Chickasaw Nation (one of the sponsors of the festival) and a senior at East Central University majoring in mass communications with an emphasis on advertising and public relations. “Fighting for Love” is his first film.
