OAC awards grant to All Nations Pow Wow

Ada — Oklahoma Art Council awarded All Nations Annual Pow Wow of Ada Society, an Oklahoma 501© organization, a matching grant to help support the an exciting and family oriented event – The 6th All Nations Pow Wow.

The Pow Wow, co-sponsored by East Central University Native American Student Association, will be held on Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013, at Kerr Activities Center located on the campus of East Central University.

By awarding the grant for the All Nation Pow Wow, Oklahoma Arts Council’s recognizes the importance of the Pow Wow to the city of Ada, Pontotoc County, and to the people in Oklahoma.

ECU’s Native American Student Association again will co-host the Pow Wow.

Master of ceremonies will be Rob Daughtery. Host Northern Drum:  Midnight Express.  Host Southern drum is Otter Trail. Other drums will also be in attendance. Gourd dancing will start at 1 p.m. 

The event is free and open to the public. 

The grand entry will be at 3 p.m. and features all dancers, veterans, elders, honored graduates and guests, the Chickasaw Nation Princesses and invited princesses from 17 other Nations. Chickasaw Color Guard will present the colors.

Competition dancing begins after the grand entry, with categories including, Tiny-Tots, Juniors, Men’s and Women’s dancing events. Winners in the first four places will be honored.

Many vendors of Native Crafts, Arts and Jewelry will be on site. Native food will be available for purchase.
