Byng graduate named Academic All-State Scholar

Oklahoma City —

The Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence has announced the recipients of its prestigious 2013 Academic All-State Awards. These 100 top public high school seniors, selected from 599 nominations statewide, hail from 80 different schools in 73 Oklahoma school districts.

Daniel McClain, Byng High School, was among those named for hte award.

An Eagle Scout, McClain is a member of Youth Leadership Oklahoma and serves on the Citizens Bank of Ada Student Advisory Board. He is a member of the All-State Mixed and Jazz choirs, and spends time writing songs and performing with the alternative rock band Urban Zoo and his church’s worship band. McClain is parliamentarian of Business Professionals of America and the National Honor Society. He plans to major in music composition at Oklahoma City University. Each of this year’s All-Staters will receive a $1,000 merit-based scholarship and a medallion. All-Staters ertr recognized at the foundation’s 27th annual Academic Awards Banquet May 18, at the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City.

  • Pontotoc County Quilt Show Results

    Pontotoc County Home and Community Education Clubs held their annual quilt show last week with 97 judged quilts and 28 for-show-only for a grand total of 125 quilts hanging at the two-day show. The event drew over 300 visitors from as far as Tennessee. Eleven vendors were on hand and sold quilting fabric and notions. The following are the results of the judged quilts:
