Ada — Sen. Susan Paddack, honorary chair and Girl Scout alumna, and the Juliette Low Leadership Society (JLLS) of Ada are excited to announce the second annual Swirls and Pearls for the Girls event set for Friday, May 3. The evening celebration will mark the culmination of the society’s 2013 fundraising campaign.
Paddack is serving as honorary chair of this year’s Swirls and Pearls for the Girls celebration. Paddack is state senator for District 13, where she is committed to promoting education and health care in Oklahoma. She serves on numerous senate committees and is the Democratic Caucus co-chair. Paddack has a rich history in Girl Scouting, which began when she joined the movement as a Brownie. Currently, Paddack co-chairs Troop 1912, an honorary Girl Scout troop for Oklahoma legislators past and present, formed as part of Girl Scouts’ centennial celebration in 2012.
“As a girl in Girl Scouting, I gained experience in a wide variety of areas — from cooking and camping to public speaking. One of the last badges I earned as a girl shows a picture of a capitol building,” said Paddack. “Girls today need to learn to become self-sufficient, set goals for the future, learn communications skills and gain the courage to make their voices heard.”
Swirls and Pearls for the Girls will begin at 6 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church Westminster Hall in Ada. The evening will include wine tastings from premier Oklahoma vintners, a selection of pearls from Gem Jewelers and Girl Scout cookies available for purchase, and hors d’hoeuvres provided by Delicious Dish. Girl Scout alumnae are encouraged to bring their Girl Scout memorabilia and wear historic Girl Scout uniforms to the celebration.
Proceeds from the event fund a myriad of opportunities for girls in the Ada area, including career exploration in the areas of science, technology engineering, and math; a ceremony to recognize girls who earn the highest award in Girl Scouting – the Girl Scout Gold Award; and events at the Ada Girl Scout Service Center like self-esteem and anti-bullying workshops, Thinking Day celebrations and the annual summer Day Camp program.
Single tickets for the event are now available for $25. Sponsorships are also available and range from $50 to $500. To purchase a ticket or learn more about the Juliette Low Leadership Society, visit www.gseok.org/JLLS or contact Keri Prince at 580-310-7645 or Suzanne McFarlane at 580-310-2840.
