Community leaders to be dunked for charity

Ada —

Who could resist a chance to see their community leaders get wet?

Ada residents will get a chance to do just that on Saturday when the Perks Club gym hosts its first-ever fundraiser, Ada Taking Care of Ada. The event will offer participants a variety of activities, including a dunk tank from 1 to 3 p.m.

Ten volunteers have agreed to get soaked for the cause, according to a news release from Perks. The list includes these:

• Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Keith Teel

• Capt. Vincent Walters of the Lighthorse Police Department

• Brian Brashier, manager of KCNP Chickasaw Community Radio

• Kory Dowell, who works in sales for Ada Nissan

• Ada High School football coach Matt Weber

• Mike Southard, president and CEO of the Ada Jobs Foundation

• Steve Bagwell, president of Vision Bank

• Dr. Aaron Heilaman, owner of Doctors Park Pharmacy

• Amber Taylor with SCORE Broadcasting

• Ada Mayor Greg McCortney.

Players can buy three balls for $5.

The fundraiser starts with a 5K run at 9 a.m. and a silent auction from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday at the gym, 117 S. Townsend. Fans of the Zumba dance fitness craze can kick up their heels at a Zumba marathon which will take place from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.

The dunk tank will be open from 1 to 3 p.m., and Pictionary play-offs will begin at 7 p.m.

The fundraiser is open to the public, and the gym will charge an entry fee for each event. All proceeds will be donated to charity, and 90 percent of the funds will stay in Ada, according to the news release.

The gym will divide 70 percent of the proceeds between the Pontotoc Animal Welfare Society and Abba’s Table, according to the news release. Local charities supporting a specific community group will receive 20 percent, and national charities with a local representative will get 10 percent.
