‘Ern’ says good-bye

Ada —

Ernestine Eubank spent her final day as Pontotoc County court clerk Tuesday and is now retired.

She didn’t really want to leave her job but said Father Time is catching up to her.

“It’s been mixed emotions,” Eubank said, “and at my age it shouldn’t be. I’ve loved every minute that I ever spent in this office. I’ve never hated to get up and come to work. I’ve always looked forward to it and I worked with some wonderful people.”

Eubank recently announced her retirement after working in the court clerk’s office for 46 years. Her final day at the office was Tuesday and courthouse employees decorated her office and congratulated her for all her service and being a “great boss” over the years.

There is a family atmosphere at the court clerk’s office, and Eubank is affectionately known as ‘Ern’ by everyone there. She will miss them, she said.
