Eubanks praised for 46 years of service

Ada — Pontotoc County Court Clerk Ernestine Eubanks tendered  her resignation to the County Commission Monday morning.

Commissioners reluctantly accepted her resignation and also adopted a resolution commending  the  veteran clerk for her 46 years of service.

Her final day at the courthouse will be May 1. Department heads from the other county offices were on hand for her resignation announcement and to pose for pictures with  Eubanks.

• Dist. 1 Commissioner  Gary Starns read her resignation letter and commissioners voted unanimously to accept it with praise for the court clerk’s long years of service.

Starns read the proclamation to Eubanks  with one arm around the  longtime employee and for her 46 years of service. The rest of the panel then joined Starns in unanimously approving the proclamation and later posing for pictures with Eubanks, as did the department heads of the other county departments.

In another fairly light day at the commission, members voted to let bids for a  contract that provide drug testing for all  county employees.

Commissioners also approved a bid required for purchasing a belly dump trailer at a price of $27,000.

District 3 Commissioner Justin Roberts made a motion to proceed with publication of an employees' handbook, but recommended the  withdrawal of a unanimous payscale which would have set pay increases for all departments.

Roberts said he didn’t see a way right now to come up with a universal, one size fits all payscale, pay level and descriptions to make a universal scale workable in all departments because of the unique needs that differ in each department.

Roberts also said the county might be able to revisit pay policies at a later date during proposals for a new safety manual.

Commissioners quickly approved  a close-out document  regarding the  Lula Volunteer Fire Department’s REAP grant. It’s a document that shows how the grant money was spent, allowing the county to apply for future REAP grants if it so desires.
