Preceptor Delta Phi crowns Valentine queen

Ada —

The Feb. 5 meeting of Preceptor Delta Phi chapter of Beta Sigma Phi International was held at the home of Abby Phillips.

Jean Erickson’s return, after months of healing, was met with a round of gentle hugs and fond wishes by her sorority sisters including Lucille Collins, Bobbye Darbison, Juanita Sutton-Green, Juanita True and Carol Winton. Guest and prospective member Jean Kelley was welcomed to her second meeting.

The members discussed final plans for the upcoming Valentine Social and supper.

A new Valentine queen was selected by secret ballot. She was to be crowned at the upcoming social gathering.

Next, planning was continued for Founder’s Day Banquet. Ada First Baptist Church has  opened a dining area for the group's use. The Allen chapter, Xi Epsilon Upsilon, will be guests for the buffet supper and ceremonies for installation of officers.

Following the conclusion of a full roster of meeting topics, the ladies adjourned to the dining room to share a wide variety of desserts prepared by the hostess. Afterward, Abby Phillips shared several books and brochures from a variety of historic cultural sites from her December visit to Ohio.

On Saturday, Feb. 16, the ladies met at the home of Lucille Collins for the Valentine social and supper buffet. Attendees included members Lucille Collins, Bobbye Darbison, Jean Erickson, Abby Phillips, Juanita True and Carol Winton. Several spouses also enjoyed the evening. Guests included prospective members Jean Kelley and Judy Kurz with her husband, Cleve.

One of Lucille’s granddaughters, Jennifer Cole of Overland Park, Kan., was present to see her grandmother crowned the chapter’s Valentine Queen 2013 by 2012 Chapter Queen Abby Phillips.

Members and guests perused a copy of the latest Beta Sigma Phi International Torch magazine. Both an article and a photo documenting the chapter’s most recent charitable projects were submitted to the Torch earlier this month.
